Function and Responsibility
The Registered Nurse will support the primary care provider (PCP) at the LSSU Health CARE Center and provide independent health promotion/disease prevention activities under scope of practice. This position shall report to the Director of the Health CARE Center.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Supports the PCP in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's care plan. Facilitates triage of patients to the clinic. Supports health student learning activities. Provides assessment and education support services to wellness program.

Collects data and maintains accurate, objective comprehensive documentation in all legal records to assure patient needs are met.

Accurately completes assigned procedures and technical skills as permitted within the policies and procedures of the clinic and university.

Assesses need and implements teaching and discharge planning for patient, family and clinic service populations.

Assumes responsibility for continually improving own expertise. Participates in continuing education and in-service programs related to achieving and/or maintaining competency in assigned areas.

Assumes responsibility for maintaining personal knowledge and demonstrating skills for required safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to, fire, tornado, blizzard, and disaster plans, as well as general safety rules and regulations appropriate for a clinic environment.

Participates in economic use of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.

Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.

Performs other job duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
State of Michigan Registered Nurse License, graduate of an accredited registered nursing program, current CPR certification, two years experience as a RN, and experience in ambulatory care required. Desired are good communication skills, organizational skills, computer competency, familiarity with health care computer software.
 
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit or stand and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform organizational activities; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
