What is the IRB?

The IRB is the Institutional Review Board. Administrative law and government regulations have policies that minimum requirements are to be followed in conducting research. The LSSU IRB reviews student and faculty research projects where human subjects are involved. The IRB helps ensure that when students conduct research they are conduting it in a ethical and legal manner. It is also to set policies and standards to make the research being conducted follows these rules.

This web site provides a central location to inform students of the IRB policies, to provide students with a simpler way to access to the approved IRB proposal forms, and to understand the policies the IRB has set in place. This site offers links to resources and tutorials on writing research and citing references.

"The opportunity at LSSU to do research is amazing. This past summer I motored through coves and islands with Prof. Garvon surveying water birds for the affects of pollution. I spent the other part of my summer on the shore of Lake Superior monitoring nests of the endangered Piping Plover."
