[ Device Registration ]
 |
The technology marketplace is seeing an influx of devices with network ports that have historically only been available with computer desktops and laptops. Gaming consoles, TiVos (and other DVRs), and PDAs use the internet for added functionality. While these devices are allowed to connect to the Lake Superior State University network, some additional steps must be taken before they will have access. |
Network Registration
All networked devices must be registered with the university. Computers are registered using a web browser when first connected but other devices usually do not include a web browser.
Note: Wireless devices without a web browser cannot be registered on the LSSU network.
MAC Address
Before registering a device you must find its MAC address (aka hardware address or physical address). We have instructions for finding the MAC address of some popular devices:
- Xbox 360
- Xbox
- PlayStation 2
- GameCube
- Wii - Instructions coming soon
- PlayStation 3 - Instructions coming soon
- TiVo - Instructions coming soon
- Replay TV - Instructions coming soon
After making note of your device's MAC address you will need to submit a device registration request. To make a request please visit the Console Registration Form.
Please note that registration requests may take 1-3 business days. You must include all required information in the E-mail. Please do not submit multiple requests for the same device.
Access
Within one to three business days you should receive an email letting you know your device should now have access to the internet.
