McAfee Anti-Virus v8.5i (Helpdesk Only*)
- This program will only work on Windows 2000,XP, and Vista. It will not work with Windows 98/95 or ME.
- LSSU has purchased the newest version of McAfee Anti-virus for student use. If you do not all ready have anti-virus software, please install McAfee at this time. During the install it will also ask you to chose the license type. Please choose "Perpetual". After the install is complete, please run a scan of your system.
- If you are not 100% sure you have anti-virus software already on your computer, please install McAfee at this time. It will detect if you have another anti-virus scanner on you system already. If it detects another anti-virus scanner installed it will give you the option to uninstall it at that time.
Windows Defender (Visit Website)
- This will install Microsoft's anti-spyware software on your system. While not as good at getting rid of spyware that is already on your system, it does include an active spyware scanner. This, when installed and turned on, will allow you to detect and prevent spyware from installing on your system. When it is done installing, click "Finish" and it will automatically perform a system scan and update the spyware definitions.
Spybot Search and Destroy (Visit Website)
- Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
OpenOffice (Visit Website)
- OpenOffice is a open source alternative to Microsoft Office. It is compatible with MS Office document formats so you can open, edit and save these files. For more information, visit OpenOffice's website.
Mozilla Firefox (Visit Website)
- Mozilla Firefox is a browser project managed by the Mozilla Corporation that competes with other browsers such as Internet Explorer and Opera. Features included with Firefox are tabbed browsing, spell checker, incremental find (via the Find toolbar), Live bookmarking, an integrated download manager, and a search system that includes Google. A third party developer network has created add-ons which provide specialist functionality.
Mozilla Thunderbird (Visit Website)
- Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, open source, cross-platform e-mail and news client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. It is an alternative to Outlook and Outlook Express.
Pidgin (Visit Website)
- Pidgin is an instant messaging program for Windows, Linux, BSD, and other Unixes. You can talk to your friends using AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr.
- Pidgin can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AIM, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time.
- Pidgin supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, and typing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more.

7-Zip is an open source file archiver designed originally for the Microsoft Windows operating system, and later made available to other systems. 7-Zip operates primarily with the 7z archive format, as well as being able to read several other archive formats such as .rar and .zip.

Sun ONE Synchronization 1.1 patch 2 is now available as a download to users of Sun ONE Calendar Server 5.1.1 and 6.0. Synchronization 1.1 patch 2 lets you synchronize your calendar and tasks between Sun ONE Calendar Server and your PDA or Outlook. This translates to anywhere anytime availability of your events and tasks, even when internet access is not available. Synchronization 1.1 patch 2 supports automatic synchronization in quiet mode with Outlook.
