Taffey Abel Ice Arena

Home to three-time NCAA Division 1 champion hockey team the LSSU Lakers, the Taffey Abel Ice Arena is the pride of LSSU. The Ice Arena has a seating capacity of over 3,800 and is the home of Lake Superior State University’s NCAA Division 1 hockey team, the Lakers. Beyond providing entertainment to the local community through the games(minimum 18 per year), ice is also scheduled for teams of all ages on the American or Canadian side that are sponsored locally. Their practices and games are hosted in our arena attracting families and friends to come cheer their players on.

The local figure skating club also uses the facility. Other events occur when the ice is not on such as the commencement ceremonies for the University as well as local events and fundraisers such as the annual Chippewa County Spring Show which showcases local businesses.
