See What Our Nursing Students Say

“I wouldn’t have gone to any other school for nursing. Lake State’s nursing program not only prepared me in becoming a nurse but also challenged me and allowed me to grow as a person. This is a nursing program that truly wants you to succeed. The Dean of Nursing and Kathy Berchem did everything they could to allow me to come back to the program after having a stroke, and I will be forever grateful for that and this nursing program!”

Anna Elenbaas, BSN ’18Saint Mary’s Mercy Health, Hauenstein Neurosciences unit

LSSU emphasizes evidence-based, hands-on practice and learning. I started IVs, inserted NG tubes, and initiated a Foley catheter under the supervision of my clinical instructor—training that other universities don’t necessarily provide, I later discovered. I also enjoyed the planned clinical situations at the state-of-the-art Simulation Center. LSSU taught me to delve into patient-centered care and holistic approaches to nursing care, which improved my patient care and their clinical outcomes.

Allison Rose, BSN ’09

I chose Lake State nursing because it has an excellent program at an affordable cost, with a ton of scholarships available, and with less competition compared to other state universities. The small class sizes allow for great in-class discussions and robust relations with professors. I love the camaraderie and respect with students and faculty.
