Ronald Hutchins RN, EMT, BSN, MSN,
Professor Ron Hutchins began his career in as a Registered Nursing in 1977.
His pathway to and through nursing can be considered non-traditional. Following
3 years as a biology student he shifted focus and became a Registered EMT and
enrolled in the Lake Superior State College, associate degree nursing program.
Following graduation he worked at a small rural hospital for 5 months and then
returned to school to complete his bachelor's degree in Nursing with a focus
on Family Nursing. Following a short stint as prison nurse, Professor Hutchins
became a community health and home care nurse, practicing in all areas of public
health practice over the next 12 years. In 1990 he returned to grad school
to pursue a master's degree in nursing administration and began a nursing administration
position with the Sault Tribe that involved, community health administration,
ambulatory clinic development and operation, managed care plan development
and operation, and HIV prevention and AIDS care programming. In August of 1997,
Professor Hutchins returned to Lake Superior State University to teach nursing.
Professor Hutchins continues to take classes toward a doctorate as well as
continuously developing learning opportunities for students.

by Professor Hutchins include:
- Learning should be fun; "Learn lot's, I may
be your patient."
- It is important to learn something new every day.
- "You get out of
learning what you put into it".
Professor Hutchins is more than just a
nurse...he has a wonderful family, enjoys woodworking, winter sports,
back packing, fishing, sailing, bicycle riding, and a variety of other activities.
