Andrea Hornblower

"An opportunity like this never would have come available to me if I had not taken the program in the Sault College/LSSU International Division," Hornblower said. "My employer was very impressed with the fact that I not only had a degree in computer networking, but the hands-on knowledge, as well. This is the main reason that I was hired."

Summer To-Do List

School starts real soon and just like that you’ll find yourself rushing to send your son and daughter out to University. Here are a few ways we’ve discovered to make the most of our summer together and to come to LSSU prepared.

Don’t expect your son or daughter to spend all day and everyday with you the summer before they leave for school. They are leaving a life behind and have many ends to tie before they move to University. Friends are important and some they might not ever see again. This time is important for goodbyes. As a family, your student knows where you are and knows that you will be there for him/her.

If you haven’t vacationed together as a family, give it a try. This is a great way to spend quality time with your student, while giving you both a lot of fond memories to help span the distance.

Don’t wait till the last minute to pack and prepare! If you buy as you go along, then it will make the overall move easier, because you won’t be afraid of forgetting as much.

Make your time count as the days go by. Don’t try to cram quality time into the last two weeks of summer. It will only be more stressful, and you won’t enjoy your time as much.

Buy your student a planner and/or calendar and mark important dates. This will give your student something to connect to when they think about home. An up to date address book is always helpful as well.

Plan ahead for the move-in day. Arrive the day before so you can spend time with your child before you unpack him/her and head on home. This will also give you a chance to give you a break after traveling before moving your child in.
