Motor Pool General Information

License Checks

If you wish to drive a Motor Pool vehicle, your driver's license must be checked. You will be requested to submit your driver's license number to the Motor Pool each year. This will be submitted to the Secretary of State for a point check. If the report returns favorably, you will be allowed to drive all motor pool vehicles that your license allows.

Licensing Requirements for Laker Bus

Any driver wishing to drive the Laker Bus must have a current CDL driver's license with current B and P endorsements.

Required Watching Of Safety Video

Potential 15 passenger van drivers must submit their license number, student or employee ID number, and a valid LSSU email address to Motor Pool. They will then be given access to an online van driving safety course, and take two tests which must be passed with 90% or higher scores.

Training Of New Drivers

On their first scheduled outing, all drivers will receive a brief training on the procedures and use of vehicles by the Motor Pool staff. Drivers should allow themselves an extra 15-20 minutes for this training, when picking up keys at the Motor Pool for the first time.

Personal Use Of Vehicles

University leased and owned vehicles are not to be used for personal use. On trips requiring early morning departure or late night return, you are allowed to park a University vehicle at your home. However, all miles incurred since pick up at the Motor Pool, will be charged to your department.
