POLICY:
- Tenured Deans Returning to Faculty
This procedure establishes the salary calculation and opportunities
for Academic Deans who were formerly tenured faculty at LSSU to return
to the faculty.
Academic Deans with tenure as faculty at LSSU may only return to the
faculty when a vacancy exists for which they are academically qualified.
Individuals moving into these positions shall maintain their academic
rank while their seniority status shall be defined by the faculty collective
bargaining agreement. The University may, at its own discretion, create
a vacancy and with reasonable notice, return an Academic Dean to the
faculty if deemed appropriate. Final approval for exercising this option
will be subject to the concurrence of the President.
Compensation upon return to the faculty shall be as follows:
- For Academic Deans appointed prior to the Fall Semester of 2002 and
who have been in that capacity for five or more years;
The nine-month academic salary shall be the current twelve-month
salary adjusted for the next academic year multiplied by 9/11,
but in no case shall it be less than the average faculty bargaining
unit salary.
I.e., for all Academic Deans holding the rank of Professor, the
salary will be the average salary of all tenured Professors within
the faculty bargaining unit; and for all Academic Deans holding
the rank of Associate Professor, the salary will be the average
salary of all tenured Associate Professors and Professors within
the bargaining unit, such rates effective for the academic year
in which he or she assumes a faculty position.
- For Academic Deans appointed after Fall Semester of 2002 and who
have been in that capacity for five or more years;
- The nine-month academic salary shall be the average faculty
bargaining unit salary.
I.e., for all Academic Deans holding the rank of Professor,
the salary will be the average salary of all tenured Professors
within the faculty bargaining unit; and for all Academic
Deans holding the rank of Associate Professor, the salary
will be the average salary of all tenured Associate Professors
and Professors within the bargaining unit; or
- The salary shall be calculated as if they had remained members
of the faculty bargaining unit. Whichever rate is higher, that
rate becomes effective for the academic year in which he or she
assumes a faculty position.
- University Administrators Hired into the Faculty
For administrators hired into the faculty and not tenured in the Lake
Superior State University faculty, their salary shall be based on the
average salary of all tenured faculty holding the same rank as the administrator.
For administrators whose initial appointment to the University was outside
the faculty, their faculty salary shall be at the discretion of the University.
