General InformationThe LSSU Purchasing Department is a service department of the Business and Finance Division of the campus. It provides services to the campus in the areas of equipment, materials and service acquisitions and surplus property management. The Purchasing Department is located in Room 103A of the Administration Building. Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday excluding university holidays. Visitors are welcome during those hours. The Purchasing Department maintains a listing of suppliers. Many catalogs and brochures are available for reference by campus requisitioners. Where a consultation with a supplier representative is desirable, the Purchasing Department can arrange a meeting. The Purchasing Department as delegated by the Board of Trustees provides the means of obtaining needed goods and services based on quantity, quality, service, delivery and competitive market prices. In addition to providing assistance and service to departments in the procurement of goods and services, a major responsibility of the Department is to ensure that the policies and procedures of the University are properly administered to comply with federal, state and local guidelines. Faculty and Staff should convey their needs to the Purchasing Department via a requisition, indicating the item(s) to be purchased, the quantities needed and a clear, concise description. If needed by a certain date, the date should be specified. The term "as soon as possible" does not convey a meaningful delivery date. "Rush" requisitions should be kept to a minimum and should be restricted to cases involving the breakdown of equipment, or where human life is endangered.
