NMRPA Meeting
Friday, October 9, 2009
The School of Recreation Studies and Exercise Science and the Soo Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Northern Michigan Recreation and Park Association for their annual fall meeting. Deb McPherson and Sally Childs had an opportunity to showcase the Sport and Recreation Management and Parks and Recreation majors. Student majors were present for the duration of the day and networked with visiting professionals. Dan Wyers, Director for Soo Parks and Recreation, presented new city initiatives such as the Community Garden (Eric Buttil), Dog Bark Park (Katelyn O'Boyle), and Privatization of Concessions (Steve Woodgate), emphasizing partnerships with our majors, interns, and graduates for planning and implementing these projects. An afternoon hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the Sault area and a business meeting concluded the day's activities.
