- Police Officer for a local, state or federal agency who is responsible for the safety of the community; investigates crimes and provides related services.
- Probation/Parole Officer, who manages caseloads of offenders; assures that requirements of probation are followed; and helps clients make the transition back to society.
- Corrections Officer, who works in secure correctional facilities; performs custodial services; acts as a residential unit manager; and assists prisoners in their transition back to society.
- Loss Control Officer, who provides many of the same services as a police officer only in the private sector; maintains perimeter security in industrial settings; manages loss control programs; and performs private investigative work.
