SAILS to present at ASAP conference
Student Alumni Involved for Lake State (SAILS) will participate in their first official function as Association of Student Advancement Programs District 5 Headquarters for the organization's annual conference in Phoenix, August 16-20.
The conference, hosted by Arizona State University, will welcome nearly 1,000 students from across the United States and Canada for leadership training and the sharing of programming ideas for student groups involved in advancement programs like admissions, alumni, public relations and fund raising.
SAILS has received seven awards for programming, student and advisor leadership since 1998 including Outstanding Program of the Year for their work with Great Lake State Week. SAILS works closely with the LSSU Alumni Office, the President's Office, Admissions and the Foundation in promoting the University. They sponsor and host more than 40 special events and programs at Lake State.
SAILS advisor Mark Jastorff has been nominated as Outstanding Advisor of the Year, an honor he also received in 1999 and from District 5 in 1998 and 2000. Jair Kollasch has been nominated as Outstanding Student Leader for his work with SAILS and on the Lake State campus.
Alecia Schuiling, Jim Hirt, Sean McDade, Dana Mertz and Steve Habusta will present two seminars - one on homecomings and Great Lake State Week in conjunction with Oklahoma State University and a panel discussion on membership options. District 5 representative, Jair Kollasch, a sophomore from Howell will serve on a panel that will address the expectations of advisors from the student perspective. Advisors Mark Jastorff and Holly Julian will moderate a pair of sessions as well.
