Learn to be an amateur astronomer in a weekend! You will learn to identify the brighter constellations in the northern evening sky utilizing our Spitz Planetarium Projector in a thirty foot dome. If it is a clear night outside during the camp, we will take a field trip to our observing site and view the real sky with the naked eye, binoculars, and various telescopes.
The planetarium projector will be used to demonstrate and simplify the many illusional motions that take place in the sky. We will look at the consequences of the motion of the moon, planets, sun and stars as seen from our rotating earth. An inventory of celestial objects such as planets, double stars, variable stars, star clusters, galaxies, and nebulae will be developed, described, and observed.
