Aquatics

Learn to Swim

The new American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes provide instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give students a positive learning experience.

  • Level 1
    Introduction to Water Skills: helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.
  • Level 2
    Fundamental Aquatic Skills: gives students success with fundamental skills.
  • Level 3
    Stroke Development: builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
  • Level 4
    Stroke Improvement: develops confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills.
  • Level 5
    Stroke Refinement: provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
  • Level 6
    Swimming and Skill Proficiency: refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with "menu" options. Each of these options focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training.
  • Sessions:
    • June 16-27 Registration begins June 9
    • July 7 – 18 Registration begins June 30
    • July 21- August 1 Registration begins July 16
    • August 4 – 15 Registration begins July 30
  • Times:
    • 10:00 – 10:50 a.m. Monday-Friday
    • 11:00 – 11:50 a.m. Monday - Friday
  • Fee: $65 first child, $54 additional child from same family

Aqua Tots

Developed for children 6 months to 5 years of age, American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water.

Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more.

Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they may begin Learn-to-Swim courses.

  • Sessions:  July 7 -18 or August 4 – 15
  • Time:  9:00 – 9:50 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Fee: $35

Water Exercise for Seniors

Water aerobics offers participants a variety of exercises that are low impact and easy to do.  The class offers cardio vascular (running, jumping, and more), stretching, core strengthening (abdomen), and muscular (using water filled milk jugs as weights).  Individuals with varied exercise and weight training ability can gain from these classes. 

  • Sessions:  June 9 – August 22 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday (*no class June 30 – July 4)
  • Time:  8:00 – 8:50 a.m.
  • Fee: $70
