What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment.
Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
Sustainability is important to making sure that we have and will continue to have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment.
Green Living at LSSU
Discovering a Sustainable Lifestyle
Green living means making sustainable choices about what we eat, how we travel, what we buy, and how we use and dispose of it. We can implement sustainability in our workplace practices, and by greening the buildings we inhabit. Our everyday choices can create a sustainable lifestyle.
How you live in your dorm room or work in your office impacts our campus sustainability goals as well as the Sault Ste Marie community and Eastern Upper Peninsula. Without your commitment to turning off your lights, recycling, and using less water we will never achieve the reductions we need to lessen our impact on the environment. By changing your habits, even a little bit, you will have a positive impact.
