Exposure to different experiences at Lake Superior State University helped me to learn and decide what I wanted to do with my life. There were many opportunities to help my learning experience, including day and weekend trips to various geological sites. It wasn’t all travel though; there was lots of hands-on experience that helped demonstrate what we learned in lectures.

Title III Grant Overview

In 2001, Lake Superior State University was selected as the recipient of a five-year Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant through the U.S. Department of Education. The goal of the project is to improve academic programs and student success by using technology to enhance advising, distributed learning, and direct instruction.
Activity: Improving Academic Programs and Student Success
Lake Superior State University's Title III activity is designed to provide opportunities for our students and to serve as a catalyst for systemic improvement. Bridging the academic gaps that stand between our students and their successful pursuit of a higher education is the primary focus of this activity. The three main components of the activity are:
Implementation of computer-based and self-paced instruction designed to personalize the education of our most at-risk students;
Implementation of an Online Learning Assistance program to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in more rigorous courses; and
Implementation of a technology-enhanced academic advising system
