SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State University President Search Committee is beginning round two of its search process while still holding the door open for candidate nominations.

After the committee met recently, chair Patrick Egan said the group has already considered more than 70 candidates and is working with various stakeholder groups to continue to identify potential candidates.

"The search group wants to make certain that it has been aggressive in identifying as many high-quality candidates as possible," Egan said. "Because LSSU trustees elected not to use a recruiting firm in this phase, the committee has taken it on itself to seek out as many candidates as possible, using alumni, faculty, friends and other networking tools."

Meanwhile, the committee agreed at its most recent meeting on Oct. 29 to begin initial interviews with those candidates it has selected to move forward in the process. The committee will continue to learn as much as possible from the group of candidates, beginning with initial interviews.

As part of its Oct. 29 meeting, the search committee heard from LSSU Professor Emeritus Gary Thesing on interview methods and suggested lines of questioning.

Egan said the search group reminds everyone that they may contact committee members at any time with suggestions and nominations.

Retired Sault Schools Superintendent Tony McLain has been serving as LSSU's president since May. More information about the search is available at www.lssu.edu/presidentsearch. -LSSU-
