Posted: November 28th, 2012

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University Dance Company has expanded the reach of its second annual Festival of Trees, a silent auction fundraiser that will culminate in a holiday gathering from 7:30-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 in the LSSU Arts Center.

This year’s event will benefit not only dance company projects, but also Tendercare Sault Ste. Marie and will feature performances to get donors and bidders in the holiday spirit.

The fundraiser features holiday trees and wreaths decorated by donors. The holiday trimmings are donated by individuals, organizations, local businesses and campus clubs and presented to potential bidders Nov. 20-30. Bidding ends at 9 p.m. on Nov. 30.

“We are really excited about this second fundraiser and happy to be able to share the proceeds with our neighbors at Tendercare,” said LSSU Dance Prof. Deborah Choszczyk. “Decorated trees or wreaths of any size may be donated. The items, some lighted, some not, may feature a variety of themes and will be identified with the donor’s name. We encourage donors to use this opportunity to promote themselves through their business or service group logo.”

Members of the community are welcome on the evening of Nov. 30, when the LSSU Arts Center lobby will be filled with holiday spirit. There will be refreshments, live music courtesy of members of the community and LSSU performers, complimentary holiday photos for children with the LSSU Dance Company, and dance performances that will include favorites from The Nutcracker ballet.

Donations may be dropped off in the Arts Center lobby between 4-10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19. LSSU Dance Company members will be on hand to assist donors. Bidding may take place anytime until 9 p.m. on Nov. 30, when the winning bids will be announced. Winners will b expected to collect their trees at that time.
