Posted: June 25th, 2013

MEET THE SIMS – Sault Ste. Marie city officials meet mother and child mannequins in a simulation laboratory during their tour of the Sault Ste. Marie SmartZone technology acceleration building on June 21. Jodi Orm, a nursing professor at Lake Superior State University, handles introductions from the left. LSSU and War Memorial Hospital will use these and other high-fidelity simulators in a joint new Sim Center that is currently under construction. This area of the technology acceleration building will eventually be used as a clean area for light manufacturing. (LSSU/John Shibley)

ROOM TO GROW AND SHOW – Sault Ste. Marie SmartZone president Eric Becks shows off a 5,000-square-foot high bay to Sault Ste. Marie city officials during their tour of the new SmartZone technology acceleration building on June 21. Becks is also pointing out a transportable booth, foreground, which can be assembled in 10, 20, and 30 feet variations with lights, screens, signs, and shelving. It will be at the disposal of SmartZone clients for trade shows. SmartZones are technology centers designated to promote resource collaborations between universities, industry, research organizations, government and other community institutions to establish technology-based business and jobs. The Sault Ste. Marie SmartZone is one of only two in the U.P. and 15 statewide. (LSSU/John Shibley)
