SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State University’s Edventures program invites members of the community to learn about the centuries-old craft of marbling during a three-hour workshop on Saturday, Oct. 26.

LSSU art instructor Heidi Finley will conduct the workshop from 1-4 p.m. in the LSSU Arts Center’s art studio. All tools and materials are included with the $90 registration fee.

“The marbling process is fascinating, but little-known and very hard to visualize for those who’ve never seen it,” said Finley. “After this workshop, you’ll walk away with inside knowledge about this mysterious and fascinating craft.”

Examples of traditional marbling may be found on the inside the covers of antique books, or on one-of-a-kind, handmade decorated papers. The art involves intricate patterns in beautiful colors. Participants in this workshop will use the same types of tools in the same manner as traditional artisans and will take home a half-dozen marbled papers, plus a marbled silk handkerchief.
