County officials go behind the scenes at new simulation center

NEW SIMULATION CENTER – Lake Superior State University nursing professor Kathy Berchem briefs a delegation with Chippewa County and the Chippewa County Health Department during a Nov. 19 open house of LSSU and War Memorial Hospital's new Simulation Center, in Sault Ste. Marie's SmartZone building. The center features wireless mannequins that are used for training LSSU students and medical professionals about various health care procedures. It includes an infant and adult male mannequin, as well as an expectant mother who can deliver a baby. The mannequins blink, bleed, cry, sweat and express their symptoms to healthcare workers and students just as live patients might, and respond to treatment much like live patients would. Run a Web search on "LSSU WMH simulation center" to read more about the burgeoning enterprise. (LSSU/John Shibley)
