Academic best descend on Lake State for Laker Gold

OUT OF COLD, IN TO GOLD – A record number of graduating high school seniors competed for three full tuition scholarships during the fourth annual Laker Gold Scholarship Competition held at Lake Superior State University on Jan. 25 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Fifty students wrote competitive essays and were personally interviewed by LSSU faculty, staff and students. They represented Michigan's best, with an average GPA of 3.93 and ACT composite of 29.7. Academic interests included, but were not limited to, engineering, biology, chemistry, criminal justice/fire science, nursing, business, education and liberal arts. LSSU’s Admissions Office will announce who landed the scholarships before the end of February. (LSSU/John Shibley)
