Historic CCHA hockey team signs to be auctioned off!
Posted: February 8th, 2014
HOCKEY HISTORY SALE – Lake Superior State University Foundation Office's Lindsay Maynard lends scale to a pair of team signs that hung in LSSU's Taffy Abel hockey arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Maynard, who oversees annual giving, will be brokering an online auction of eleven 4- by 4-foot, enamel-coated, ¾-inch plywood signs that graced the arena's west wall for more than a decade. Bidding continues right up until the beginning of the home hockey game on Saturday, March 1, against Minnesota Mankato. The signs represented teams in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, a conference that recently dissolved after 33 years when schools like Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State left to form a "Big Ten" conference. LSSU — along with Northern Michigan, Ferris State, and Bowling Green — now play in an expanded Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
