Redefining the Classroom

Charter School summer campers gather heads of STEAM

Posted: July 2nd, 2014

GIMME STEAM – Jakobi Trotter unfurls a Japanese-styled fan during a marbling workshop offered by Lake Superior State University adjunct art professor Heidi Finley on July 1. The art form applies vivid pigments suspended in a sticky solution to paper, which can then be transferred to a variety of media such as ceramics and fabrics. LSSU's Edventures summer camp office is hosting more than 120 students from 21 LSSU-sanctioned charter schools for a weeklong science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) camp that ran through July 3. Trotter, from Detroit, Mich., attends Macomb Montessori Academy. Edventures also offers community science and sports camps for kids.
