Redefining the Classroom

Student nurses host first aid workshop for science exploration campers

Posted: August 1st, 2014

FIRST-AID PRIMER – Lake Superior State University licensed practical nursing students Sandy Biron (l) and Kylee Xu, both of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., show Tipton Academy science exploration camper Olivia Dixon how to prepare an impromptu split and arm sling during a visit to LSSU's nursing lab. LSSU's LPN program, which graduates a class on Aug. 2, conducted safety, personal health, and first aid briefings at stations that touched on everything from treating heatstroke to putting out clothing fires. Tipton Academy is a Garden City, Mich., school chartered by LSSU that offers pre-kindergarten through grade-five instruction. Run a Web search on "LSSU LPN" for information about that program at Lake State. (LSSU/John Shibley)
