Undergraduate Opportunities in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at LSSU
Fish Hatchery Employment & Volunteering
Students can gain hands-on experience as hatchery employees or volunteers during the academic year and summer. Experiences include rearing Atlantic Salmon, working to control invasive Sea Lamprey, and conducting field research on coastal wetlands of the Great Lakes.
Several summer internships with partner agencies, such as the MI DNR and Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, are available through the School of Natural Resources and Environment.
CFRE supports numerous senior thesis projects each year. Jake Larsen ’18, former hatchery employee, earned the Best Student Poser Award at the 2018 meeting of the Michigan Chapter of the American Fisheries Society.
