Fish Hatchery Employment & Volunteering

Students can gain hands-on experience as hatchery employees or volunteers during the academic year and summer.  Experiences include rearing Atlantic Salmon, working to control invasive Sea Lamprey, and conducting field research on coastal wetlands of the Great Lakes.

Several summer internships with partner agencies, such as the MI DNR and Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, are available through the School of Natural Resources and Environment.

Summer Employment

CFRE employs students every summer to help carry out research projects. This hands-on experience allows our students to be competitive to employers after graduation. Current projects include: the Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands Monitoring Program, Little Rapids Restoration surveys, and European Frogbit surveys.
