Situations involving mental health crises may include intense feelings of personal distress (anxiety, depression, anger, panic, or hopelessness) obvious changes in functioning (neglect of personal hygiene), or a recent catastrophic or traumatic life event. Thoughts of harming yourself, thoughts of harming someone else, or a recent trauma are considered crisis/emergency situations, and Counseling Services urges you to take immediate action.

In crisis situations, students may contact us when Counseling Services is open, at 906-635-2752 or present to our front desk. Counseling Services does not provide emergency services outside of our regular hours of operation. Do not use E-mail for emergencies. E-mail is not used for counseling issues or emergency contact and is not monitored 24 hours a day.

We urge the use of other resources since we may not always be able to respond immediately to emergencies. We do not provide night-time and weekend coverage. If an emergency occurs, the following procedures are recommended:

For students living on campus:

  • Depending on the nature of the assistance needed, call a RESIDENT ADVISOR or COMMUNITY ADVISOR.
