Financial Aid Appeals
Financial aid regulations require that a student must make satisfactory academic progress (SAP) to remain eligible for financial aid. The minimum requirements for all types of financial aid include three standard measures-the cumulative GPA, the number of credits earned each semester, and the pace of degree completion.
A student who has had his/her financial aid suspended may file an appeal for the reinstatement of aid when extenuating circumstances exist. A student wanting to file an appeal for the reinstatement of financial aid will need to meet with his/her academic advisor for a degree audit and academic success plan (if applicable).
150% Rule Appeals – Requires a complete degree audit outlining all completed coursework, all future coursework (including semester of completion) and anticipated graduation date. The degree audit should be signed by the academic advisor, department chair or college dean.
GPA and Completion Rate Appeals – Requires both a completed degree audit outlining all completed and future coursework and anticipated graduation date and an Academic Success Plan, if more than one semester of probation is suggested to allow the student to meet the SAP requirements given his/her individual circumstances. Both the degree audit and academic success plan should be signed by the academic advisor, department chair or college dean.
The student should complete the Financial Aid Appeal Packet and review the checklist of required documents prior to meeting with his/her academic advisor.
