About the South Hall Renovation Project

Lake Superior State University received the necessary approval from the State of Michigan to proceed with the renovation and addition to South Hall for its School of Business and new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, both of which are part of the College of Business, Engineering and Economic Development.

The project includes two components; the first is the renovation of the existing 32,000 square foot building with original portions dating back to the early 1900’s when South Hall served as an army barracks for Fort Brady. The renovation will include much needed infrastructure upgrades as well as classroom and office renovations. The second project component is an addition of approximately 12,000 square feet to connect the original two wings and form an atrium that creates an interactive commons with an expanded café, new program rooms, and support space.

With your support, the renovated South Hall will:

  • Increase the square footage dedicated to academics, providing much-needed classroom and seminar room space for current and future students and faculty;
  • House the new Securities Trading Lab, and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, serving as a resource for the surrounding business and entrepreneurial community;
  • Provide spaces for student gathering and team-building in the heart of the LSSU campus;
  • Promote collaboration across all communities with flexible project rooms, designed to expand and support the entrepreneurial nature of the business partnership;
  • Connect students to the world with improved technology including spaces equipped with digital displays, mobile and smart devices; and
  • Preserve an iconic building as the home for the LSSU School of Business

The new South Hall will ensure the University’s competitiveness now and in the future.  Your support will help elevate and expand our capabilities to deliver high-quality, technology-based instruction and provide for a continuing flow of skilled workers to grow and shape a 21st century global economy.
