SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The ninth annual War Memorial Hospital (WMH) Women’s 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit Lake Superior State University Women’s Athletics will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, on the LSSU campus in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
During the last eight years, the LSSU Athletics Women’s Walk has raised over $350,000 to help elevate the six Laker women’s athletics programs and provide the necessary means to be competitive at the NCAA Division II national level.
The LSSU women’s basketball, volleyball, tennis, track and field, cross country, and golf teams join together for the Women’s Walk. Each program sets a fundraising target based on their operating needs for the upcoming season. Teams of walkers raise money by collecting pledges and donations from family, friends and community members. Participants then participate in a 60 minute walk/run around the campus of LSSU. This visible and popular show of support has become one of the premier fundraising events for the LSSU Department of Athletics.
A Puerto Rico Dream Vacation for two with airfare from Nov. 9-13 is the grand prize among several gifts to be raffled following the 5KRun/Walk. A 32-inch high definition TV and a gaming system along with seven team baskets valued at $50 apiece will be awarded to those with a winning raffle ticket. Raffle tickets are $25 apiece and you don’t have to be present to win.
Seamore the Seaduck (@LSSUSeamore), one of LSSU’s two official mascots, will be making a special appearance at the event to welcome participants and pose for photographs.
