Role of the Department
The Purchasing Department, as delegated by the Board of Trustees, provides the means of obtaining needed goods and services based on quantity, quality, service, delivery and competitive market prices. In addition to providing assistance and service to departments in the procurement of goods and services, a major responsibility of the office is to ensure the policies and procedures of the University are properly administered to comply with federal, state and local guidelines.
Our office maintains a listing of suppliers and vendors for the entire campus community. Many catalogs and brochures are available for reference by campus requisitioners. Where a consultation with a supplier representative is desirable, we request you to work with us to arrange a meeting.
Faculty and staff should convey their needs to the Purchasing department via a requisition, indicating the item(s) to be purchased, the quantities needed and a clear, concise description. If needed by a certain date, the date should be specified. The term "as soon as possible" does not convey a meaningful delivery date. "Rush" requisitions should be kept to a minimum and should be restricted to cases involving the breakdown of equipment, or where human life is endangered.
The Lake Superior State University Mailroom's mission is to integrate our service with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide courteous, customer-focused, and cost-effective services to the University community.
The Mailroom is open during the University's core hours, with outgoing USPS mail metered between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Outgoing mail is processed on a first-come, first-served basis during these hours. The Mailroom staff makes every effort to ensure mail is processed within 24 hours of receipt, however, during unforeseen circumstances, this may not be possible. All prices and regulations for USPS mail are determined by the USPS and are subject to change.
Please contact the Mailroom at 635-2654 for any questions related to incoming or outgoing USPS and inter-departmental campus mail or visit the Mailroom page.
