Nov 21st Featured Student Aurora MacKenzie

Where is your home town?
– Bruce Mines, Ontario

What year in college are you?
– Senior

What is your favorite part of the LSSU Kinesiology Department?
– I think the professors make the Kinesiology department so great. The professors all go
out of their way to get to know each and every student at the beginning of their college
experience. The professors are all very helpful whether it be answering a question you
may have about a class you are in, what elective classes would be best for you to take
based on your future goals, or pretty much anything else! Another great aspect of the
Kinesiology department is the small size. This allows for many hands-on learning
experiences that you would not get at a bigger university. Students are able to gain real
life experiences volunteering for testing with the sports teams, or enrolling in research
classes. I can’t say enough about all the great aspects of the LSSU Kinesiology

What drew you to a degree in Kinesiology?
– I would like to pursue a career in Physical Therapy, so I was looking for a program that I
found interesting and also gave me a solid foundation for graduate school.

What is your favorite class for your Fall 2018 semester?
– This semester I am only enrolled in Kinesiology related classes, so it is hard to pick just
one favorite. I like how Fitness Evaluation II (KINS 348) is partly hands on and allows us
to work in the lab conducting fitness tests. Therapeutic Ex Rehabilitation (KINS 346)
also has a hands-on component which introduces us to rehabilitative exercises and
theories. The class that ties everything together from what I have learned in the classroom
over the years, and directly translates it to first-hand experience is the Independent Study
(HLTH 490) class I am taking. During this class, you are placed with one of LSSU’s
athletic trainers where you are able to get a better understanding of the job, and hands on

Once you graduate what is the next step for you – will you attend a graduate school or
start applying for jobs?
– I am in the process of applying to graduate schools in Ontario for the Master of Science
in Physical Therapy degree

Once you graduate what is your choice career?
– Physical Therapist

If you could give any student one piece of advice for their Freshman year what would it be?
– Have fun during your first year! Get involved on campus whether it be with clubs,
intramurals, or volunteer experiences.
