Monseratt Navarro

Where is your hometown?
My home town is Detroit, Michigan.

What year in college are you?
I am a Senior in the Kinesiology program with a concentration in Sport and Fitness Management.

What is your favorite part of the LSSU Kinesiology Department?
My favorite part of the LSSU Kinesiology Department is that I get to form a close bond with my professors and if I need any help, I know I can count on each and every faculty member in the department.

What drew you to a degree in Kinesiology?
What drew me to get a degree in Kinesiology is the love for sports. I grew up playing soccer and running track. I always wanted to work in a field where I could help people while being able to enjoy sports.

What class have you taken so far that you would consider your favorite?  Why?
One of my favorite classes so far has been my Sports Nutrition class (Kins 275)  because I learned an immense amount of information of how nutrition plays a big role in a person’s performance. We learned about athletes vs. average people vs. special populations. Overall, I love the program itself.

Once you graduate from Lake State, what are your plans?
My plan after graduation is to work in a Sports Facility with the management team. I want to be able to do what I love, to apply my knowledge of what I’ve learned at Lake State, and to grow as a person in my field. I would love to work for an MLS team in the future.

If you could give students one piece of advice for their freshman year, what would it be?
A piece of advice I would give to freshman is to work on your time-management skills. Make sure to put your education first and prioritize your needs versus your wants. It does get tricky because now you have a lot of time on your hands but always remember to study and get a good amount of sleep!
