Featured Student - Nicholas Kossoff

Where is your home town?
I am from West Des Moines, Iowa.

What year in college are you?
I am currently a senior in my last semester here at LSSU.

What is your favorite part of the LSSU Kinesiology Department?
My favorite part about the Kinesiology Department at LSSU is the faculty.   I found it very easy to develop a close relationship with each and every professor in the LSSU Kinesiology Department.  I love learning about the human body and every professor at Lake State is always open to questions no matter what the question is about.  Whether I have questions about exercise physiology, anatomy, the future of kinesiology, job opportunities, etc., the kinesiology faculty is always there with passion to help.

What drew you to a degree in Kinesiology?
As a very active individual, I have always been interested in how the human body works and how to improve the body so a degree in kinesiology just seemed to fit perfectly with my interests.

What class have you taken so far that you would consider your favorite? Why?
My favorite class I have taken at LSSU so far is Exercise Prescription (KINS444). I loved this class because it tied everything you learn throughout the Kinesiology Program into one class. I really enjoyed how “real world” this class was because it wasn’t just sitting in a classroom listening to lectures. In exercise prescription you actually apply everything you know about kinesiology while working with a real client in order to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. Another class that I enjoyed was Research Methods in Kinesiology (KINS358). This course could be a bit dry at times but I loved the fact that I got to research a topic in the field of kinesiology that I was passionate about. In this class, you got to choose your own research topic and then present your findings which was cool because you got to learn more about something you are interested in as well as learn how to present complex information to others which is a skill that every kinesiology student will need after graduating.

Once you graduate from Lake State, what are your plans?
After graduating from Lake State, I plan to attend medical school in the hopes of becoming a medical doctor. My current interest is in the field of Physiatry.
