Taylor Simoneau featured student

Taylor Simoneau is the Kinesiology featured student of the week for February 4, 2019.  Congratulations, Taylor!

Where is your home town?

St. Catharines, Ontario

What year in college are you?

What is your favorite part of the LSSU Kinesiology Department?
My favourite part of the kinesiology department is how closely knit everyone is.  All of the students know each other and all of the professors know their students.  Everyone is very willing to help each other out, and everyone has an interest in the same things.

What drew you to a degree in Kinesiology?
Ever since I was a kid I’ve been playing sports, I tried all of them.  Even now, I still enjoy watching and playing all kinds of sports.  I wanted to get into a field where I could put myself in a position to make sports as enjoyable for others as it was for me.

What class have you taken so far that you would consider your favorite?  Why?
I would consider Sports Management one of my favourite classes; I have always been more on the participant side of sports rather than the organizational side, and this class showed me how much business is really involved in the sports industry.  It also gives you a bigger picture view of all the different potential careers in different levels of sport around the world.

Once you graduate from Lake State, what are your plans?
I don’t have any concrete plans just yet, but I would really enjoy going to grad school and helping out coaching a team as a graduate assistant, preferably a golf team.

If you could give students one piece of advice for their freshman year, what would it be?
I would tell freshman students to take classes in different areas that interest them, because if they’re not sure it can really help you decide what you like and don’t like.  I would also tell freshman to enjoy their time  and to get involved, make all the friends and connections they can; they people you meet can really make your experience the best it can be.
