Marketing class raises thousands for charitable causes

MRKT379 PAYOUT – Marketing professor Valerie Philips' class unveils the amount of cash they raised this semester for area charitable groups. The 20-student sports and events marketing class designed and managed all aspects – staffing, publicity, recruiting sponsors, and revenue tracking - of a fundraising activity to arrive at a set goal for proceeds, all within an unforgiving money and time budget. Three teams raised a total of $4,149.70, after expenses. The Hockey for Heroes three-on-three hockey tournament benefited the Wounded Warriors project for veterans; a Runnin' For The Law 5K walk and run contributed to The Thin Blue Line of Michigan that assists injured cops, corrections officers, and first responders; and a "Smarty Pants" trivia evening channeled money into the Sault Ste.
