Science fieldtrippers see the light in chemistry lab
Posted: December 8th, 2012
CONJURER OF LIGHT – Lake Superior State University's Chris Heth coaxes light from clear liquid for students in a darkened lab, which is why the chemistry professor appears blurred in this time exposure. Junior and senior high schoolers, teachers, and a superintendent with St. Ignace Public Schools sampled chemistry, biology, engineering, and fish science during a field trip hosted by LSSU on Dec. 7. Heth's chemiluminescence demo taps the same principle used by fireflies on a summer evening. Looking on from left to right are Caleb Leveille, Anesa Collier, Kelley Wright, Martin Donajkowski, Morgan Lavake, Kelsey Will, and Emily Hinsman. (LSSU/John Shibley)
