Redefining the Classroom

American Chemical Society funds LSSU, Sault High science coach program

Posted: August 29th, 2014

COACHES CORNER – Lake Superior State University chemistry professor Steven Johnson and Sault High chemistry teacher Becky Dale discuss possibilities after the American Chemical Society awarded a grant to the pair as part of its Science Coach program. ACS Science Coaches are chemistry professionals who share their expertise and enthusiasm for science with an elementary, middle, or high school teacher over the course of one school year. Johnson approached ACS for the grant this past spring. The award earmarks hundreds of dollars to Sault High for lab supplies and instrumentation, and supports regular collaborative visits between LSSU and Sault High over the coming year. Run a Web search on "ACS science coach" for more on that initiative. Search "LSSU physical sciences" to read about those areas of study at Lake State. (LSSU/John Shibley)
