LSSU Volunteer Center
Our mission is to inspire the more than 2,000 members of the LSSU student body, as well as the community at large, to create social change through lifelong participation in volunteer programs and civic engagement.
About the LSSU Volunteer Center
The LSSU Volunteer Center coordinates service activities on campus and throughout greater Sault Ste. Marie, MI area and is charged with inspiring members of the extended LSSU family to give of their time and talent to better our community. At LSSU, there are many ways to give back to the community. Through the Volunteer Center, students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members can participate in ongoing and annual service opportunities, suggest volunteer site locations, and lead service projects. The Volunteer Center also maintains an online listing of community-wide service groups, and a volunteer database of community service opportunities.
The LSSU Volunteer Center was launched in 2010 and has become the new foundation for coordinating volunteer efforts for university students. The Volunteer Center has expanded to organize more than seven other unique annual programs and events that involve the greater Bruin community in civic engagement. And though its website and use of social media, the Center also serves as a hub for planning materials, opportunities for volunteers to share their experience and connect with others, and access to an interactive database of service agencies in the Sault Ste. Marie, MI area.
That all sounds good, right? But, what does volunteering do for you?
- You gain valuable work experience!
- You build new skills and get better at old ones!
- You meet new people and make new friends!
- Best of all, you know that YOU are the vehicle for social change!
The LSSU Volunteer Center was formally established in 2006, as a satellite office from the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Through our partnership with the United Way, the Volunteer Center is growing by leaps and bounds. All students, faculty, and staff are invited (and encouraged) to use the resources of the Volunteer Center.
