The Provost is the chief academic officer of the university. Dr. Muller provides leadership and oversight for Academic Affairs, which includes the College of Criminal Justice & Emergency Responders, the College of Education & Liberal Arts, the College of Health & Behavior, the College of Innovation & Solutions, and the College of Science & Environment, the Center for Freshwater Research & Education, the Registrar’s Office, Shouldice Library, Charter Schools, Regional Centers, and Sponsored Programs.
Dr. Kimberly Muller joined LSSU as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics in 2004. In 2009, she was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor. In 2016, she was promoted to Full Professor. Dr. Muller has served as the Dean of the College of Innovation and Solutions since 2017. She was appointed as the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on April 3, 2023.

Assessment of the total student learning experience at Lake Superior State University encompasses the aspects of both academics and operational support.
The Office of the President serves as liaison to the LSSU Board of Trustees, and oversees the development of the University mission, vision, and strategic planning.
LSSU sponsored Charter Schools are public schools, operating in much the same way as traditional public schools. They are free, open to all, and operate under the direction of a publicly-appointed board of directors.
Lake Superior State University maintains ongoing institutional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission.
