Soo Co-op Credit Union and Lake Superior State University Collaborate to Empower Student Success through Transformative Endowment

Sault Ste. Marie, MI – Lake Superior State University and Soo Co-op Credit Union announce the establishment of an endowment to benefit LSSU Career and Academic Services renaming the center the Soo Co-op Credit Union Career Services Resource Center. The endowment was created to assist LSSU students by supporting career and academic services at Lake Superior State University.

โ€œWe are grateful to Soo Co-op Credit Union for their generous donation, which enables us to further elevate the quality and scope of services offered by our Career Services Resource Center,โ€ said Dr. Lynn Gillette, LSSU Interim President. โ€œThis endowment will not only impact the current student body but will leave a lasting legacy, shaping the future careers of LSSU graduates for years to come.โ€

The Soo Co-op Credit Unionโ€™s $30,000 gift to LSSU will directly establish the endowment, with $5,000 of that becoming immediately available to support students at LSSU. The Soo Co-op Credit Union Career Services Resource Center Endowment will play a pivotal role in fostering student success by funding key initiatives, including the universityโ€™s annual Career Fair, career-building and academic success workshops, and outreach programming in the Shouldice Library related to career and academic services. Additionally, the endowment will provide essential support to โ€œSeamoreโ€™s Closet,โ€ a unique resource offering LSSU students access to professional business attire at no cost, coupled with invaluable advice on dressing for success.

โ€œWe consider LSSU students as valuable members of our community and our future,โ€ said Lynda Ellis, President and CEO of Soo Co-op Credit Union. โ€œOur aim is to contribute to the success of all LSSU students by providing support to their career and academic services. This aligns with SCCUโ€™s mission.โ€

โ€œThis generous endowment will support events such as the Career Fair, Library Outreach and Skill Development programming,โ€ commented Marc Boucher, Director of Library & Academic Services. โ€œThis partnership will also provide opportunities for employment and career search education.โ€
