Early Alert

At Lake Superior State University, we are committed to student success, both in and out of the classroom.  College is a time that is full of promise and opportunities.  It is also a time of intellectual pursuits, personal growth, and development.  For all LSSU students, there are times that the journey can be enhanced by the support from others in a caring community.  Early Alert is a mechanism that community members may utilize to help someone who is in need.  This caring program is offered through Laker Success and is designed to provide support and assistance to students who may be struggling with the college experience or other life challenges.

Some reasons to submit an Early Alert include these concerns:

  • Attendance
  • Academics
  • Sadness
  • Behavioral Concerns
  • Interpersonal Relationships
  • Substance Concerns
  • Housing Concerns
  • Family Issues

The main goal of the Early Alert program is to help students to be successful at LSSU through individual support, care, and the coordination of LSSU resources. Early Alert staff will reach out to the student to discuss the concerns they may be facing and to devise a strategy to help address these concerns.

LSSU faculty, staff, and peers play a vital role in a student’s success. As members of the LSSU community take notice that students are struggling academically, socially, emotionally, or personally, it is important to refer these students to the Early Alert program for assistance. Students are welcomed and encouraged to contact Laker Success directly if they have a need.  Referrals may be made by, students, parents, faculty, or staff.

However, if this is an emergency or someone needs immediate assistance, please call Public Safety at 906-635-2100.
