Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary area of engineering technology that combines mechanical, electrical, computer, robotics, and computer science.
We are now accepting new first-time and transfer students into the new B.S. Mechatronics program for Fall 2022!
Benefits of pursuing a Mechatronics degree include:
- Entering a high-demand field that is expecting to continue to grow rapidly according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
- Mechatronics combines several areas of expertise to help students develop multidisciplinary skills, laying the foundation for a successful career.
- As with any of the School of Engineering & Technology programs, you will have many hands-on labs — including several in LSSU’s $2M Robotics Lab — that are taught by full-time faculty (not teaching assistants).
- There are many engineering-specific scholarships available, including scholarships for FIRST Robotics participants.
Mechatronics engineering technologists use a combination of mechanical, electrical, computer, software, and robotics skills to work with technologies such as automated and computer-integrated manufacturing systems, industrial robots, mobile robots, smart sensors, actuators, and control systems. Mechatronics students will gain valuable experience working with industry-standard equipment including industrial robots, PLCs, vision systems, conveying systems, simulation software, CNC and manual machining centers, end-of-arm tooling, and sensors. Students will learn the application of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 principles, industrial control systems, and cyber-physical systems and security.

- CSCI 265 – Intro to Artificial Intelligence
Description: An introduction to the techniques and tools used in artificial intelligence and machine intelligence, including problem solving, search, knowledge representation, logic, and inference. Prerequisites: CSCI121 or EGNR265 and MATH111 or equivalent test score. (3,0) 3
- EGRS 235 – Industry 4.0
Description: An introduction to Industry 4.0 concepts and supporting technology. Students will learn the philosophy of Industry 4.0, the application of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and the integration of workcell sensors for digital data collection for the purpose of analytics and predictive actions. Prerequisites: MATH131, EGEE125, (EGET110 or EGEE210), (EGNR140 or CSCI105 or EGNR265 or some programming background). (3,2) 4
- EGRS 325 – Industrial Control Systems
Description: An introduction to the equipment and techniques commonly used in industrial control & automation systems. Topics include technical and safety standards, electrical diagrams, control panel design and wiring, pneumatic systems, and motor drives. Prerequisite: EGET110 or EGEE210. (2,3) 3
- EGRS 375 – Cyber-Physical Sys & Security
Description: An introduction to cyber-physical systems. Students will learn digital storage of sensory data, cloud (edge) computing, threat analysis and data protection at the hardware level, security designs applicable for industrial environments, and the application of various intelligent algorithms for data analytics. Prerequisites: MATH207 or MATH308, EGNR265 or CSCI201, CSCI265, Pre or Co-requisite EGRS235. (3,0) 3
