The position will be posted on the student job board in the near future, so take this time to refine your cover letter and resume, and gather the references you’ll need. Prepare yourself now for the chance to lead, inspire, and transform our campus community when applications open.

  • Reference Forms

    As part of the application process, you’ll need to submit three reference forms that speak to your leadership skills, ability to connect with others, and overall character. When choosing who should complete these forms, think about individuals who have directly observed your growth and achievements—professors, coaches, mentors, employers, or other professionals who can provide an honest and detailed perspective on your strengths. We recommend reaching out to them early, giving them plenty of time to complete the reference forms thoughtfully.

Being proactive ensures your references have ample opportunity to highlight your dedication, integrity, and potential as a Resident Advisor. Your references can help us see how you’ll thrive in this role, so make sure to choose people who know you well and believe in your abilities!

    • When you complete your application, you’ll be required to answer the following questions. You can start working on them now so that when the application goes live, you’ll already have your answers ready.

      • Motivation and Alignment Question: What inspired you to apply for the RA position, and how does this role align with your personal goals or values?
      • Leadership and Initiative Question: Share an example of a leadership role you’ve held (formal or informal). What were your responsibilities, and what did you learn from this experience?
      • Student Charter Values Question: Our Student Charter highlights values such as respect, responsibility, and community. Which of these values resonates most with you, and how have you demonstrated it in your daily life or past endeavors?
      • Conflict Resolution Question: Describe a time when you helped resolve a conflict or disagreement among peers. What approach did you take, and what would you do similarly or differently in the future?
      • Fostering Inclusion Question: Resident Advisors play a key role in building inclusive communities. How would you create a welcoming environment for residents with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and identities?
      • Being a Laker Question: What does it mean to you to be a “Laker”? How do you embody the spirit or values associated with being part of the Laker community?
      • Campus Involvement Question: Describe your current or past involvement in campus activities, organizations, or events. How have these experiences prepared you to be an effective RA?
