Mr. Trevor Bryant is our very helpful Electrical and Computer Lab Engineer, holding an Associates degree in Computer Engineering Technology from Sault College of Applied Arts & Technologies. He has contributed to the field of technology, earning recognition such as the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence in 2012 for his TAP Track Technology, a wireless maple sap collection monitoring system. His commitment to service is evident through his involvement with SOYA (Save Our Young Adults) and his dedicated service as a committee member for the Northern Ontario Ride For Sight from 2010 to 2017. Whenever students have a technology question, he is always ready to help!

Dr. David Baumann is a distinguished academic and engineer with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and a strong background in statistics. He currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lake Superior State University, where he has been a valuable member of the faculty since 1999, achieving the rank of Professor in 2006. With extensive experience in research, including contributions to active noise and vibration control during his Naval Surface Warfare Center appointment, Dr. Baumann is an accomplished professional, holding a U.S. patent and actively participating in scientific and professional societies such as the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). His dedication extends beyond the classroom and laboratory, as he has also served on numerous university committees and undertaken professional development activities, reinforcing his commitment to advancing the field of engineering.

Biography for Prof. Jim Devaprasad

Prof. Jim Devaprasad is a distinguished academic and engineering professional at LSSU where he has been a valuable member of the faculty in the School of Engineering and Technology since 1986, achieving the rank of Professor in 2007.  He also serves as the Director of the LSSU Robotics Center, which hosts over $2-million in robotics and automation equipment. He has been the architect of LSSU’s robotics program, which is the first BS degree program in robotics in the nation that started in 1985 and now has over 1000 graduates working in various robotics industries across the nation.

With a career spanning nearly four decades at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie – which is one of the 15 state universities in Michigan – Prof. Devaprasad has made significant contributions to education and applied research in the field of robotics and automated manufacturing, earning accolades such as the Distinguished Professor Award from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards and Outstanding Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Jim is actively engaged in securing grants and equipment donations, fostering partnerships with industry, and promoting STEM education through various committees and service activities. Prof. Devaprasad’s commitment to advancing the field of robotics is further evidenced by his service on the Association for Advancing Automation’s (A3) Membership Committee, the A3 Education Committee, and the A3 Advocacy Committee, and his involvement in professional development activities such as participation in industry forums, workshops, and conferences. His dedication to robotics education and applied research continues to make a significant impact on both the academic and industrial sectors.

Biography

Edoardo I. Sarda received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, USA, in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in ocean systems engineering from Florida Atlantic University, Dania Beach, FL, USA, in 2016. He is a former R&D Engineer in the field of collaborative and mobile robotics. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Robotics Engineering at Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, USA. His expertise is in autonomous vehicles, mobile robotics, human-robot collaboration, automated systems and modern control. Dr. Sarda is a member of the IEEE Society.
