National Geographic Adventurers of the Year 11,700-mile Journey Presentation

6:00 PM until 7:00 PM
Organization:
Description:

National Geographic Adventurers of the Year Dave and Amy Freeman will be on campus tonight to talk about their their 11,700-mile expedition from the Arctic to Key West, Fla. Everyone is welcome to hear about the three-year adventure starting tonight in the new Regional Outdoor Center. The Freemans are about midway into a trek that started on Puget Sound in 2010, wound north to Alaska, hooked east into the Yukon, down south past the Northwest Territories' Great Slave Lake, and then cut diagonally through Canada's prairie provinces past Minnesota's Boundary Waters until, earlier this month, they passed onto Lake Superior. After speaking in the Sault, the pair will continue their trip along Lake Huron's north shore with stops in Ontario, including North Bay. By spring, the Freemans will have hiked, paddled, dog-sledded, and sailed a path over the top of North America and down the eastern seaboard to an endpoint in the Florida Keys, but not before stopping at the US Capitol to deliver a signed canoe as a petition against types of mining that threaten the Great Lakes watershed.
