Prof. Stephanie A. Yarwood of the University of Maryland/College Park Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology will present "How cross-site experiments shed new light on bacteria and fungi in the boreal forest." Her research applies molecular methods, such as sequencing of DNA and RNA, to examine microbial communities, and then pairs those observations with measures of activity, such as enzyme assays, stable isotope tracing, and in situ response, in order to shed light on the role of microbes in mediating key natural process.
