SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Sixty years of Laker hockey, a revitalized rink, and a community ready to cheer on the Lakers make this year’s Great Lake State Weekend (GLSW) a special celebration for Lake Superior State University (LSSU). Adding to the excitement, film crews will be on hand to capture the action for Our Shot, an upcoming docuseries following LSSU’s NCAA Division I men’s hockey team.

The Lakers will play their first home games in the refreshed Taffy Abel Arena, hosting Bowling Green State University on Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24. Both games begin at 7:07 p.m. For more information and tickets, visit lssulakers.com.

Great Lake State Weekend brings alumni, students, fans, and community members together to celebrate the Lakers and the traditions that make LSSU special. This year, visitors may also catch a glimpse of the team behind Our Shot as production crews film around campus and at the hockey games. Fans in attendance may even become part of the story as the series captures the energy and excitement surrounding Laker hockey. A full schedule of GLSW events is available at lssu.edu/glsw26.

Our Shot builds on the production team’s efforts to share the Lake State story with a broader audience. The team also produced Raising State, a docuseries about the university planned to be released first. During GLSW, crews will capture interviews, campus activities, and the Lakers’ series against Bowling Green, highlighting the people, traditions, and community spirit that make Laker hockey special.

“Laker hockey is always a special experience, but even more so during Great Lake State Weekend. I’m thrilled that we have the opportunity to share that experience with the world through the lens of these docuseries,” said LSSU President Dr. David Travis.

Both series are scheduled to debut on streaming platforms in early 2027.

All Laker fans, alumni, students, and community members are encouraged to join the celebration, fill the stands, and cheer on the Lakers! Be part of the story as Our Shot captures the excitement of Great Lake State Weekend and helps introduce LSSU and the Sault Ste. Marie community to a national audience.
