Environmental Students Spend Spring Break Sampling in North Carolina
EVRN 389, Environmental Research Methods, recently returned from a week of field work at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC.ย While in Beaufort, students examined water chemistry, soil structure, ecology, and coastal processes in a variety of ecosystems including the Cape Lookout National Seashore Park, Rachel Carson Estuarine Research Reserve, Croatan National Forest, and Fort Macon State Park.ย The data collected will allow students in the course to assess the impacts of human activities such as agriculture and land use changes as well as ecosystem restoration on the ecology and water quality ofย inland lakes, the Newport and North River Estuaries, and the surrounding areas.
